Company
Engineering III-nitrides
from the lattice up.
Opnovix is a Silicon Valley semiconductor company developing Native InGaN® for more efficient LEDs and new visible lasers.
ORIGIN AND APPROACH
Device experience
shaped the platform.
THE STARTING POINT
Device experience
Founded in 2019, Opnovix brings decades of emitter development and commercialization to the challenge of lattice engineering.
MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT
Scientific development
Our research collaboration combine epitaxy and crystal characterization to develop and validate the Native InGaN® platform.
DEVICE REQUIREMENTS
Device development
Device requirements guide development, from “no-droop” blue LEDs to green and red emitters and new visible laser wavelengths.
INDUSTRIAL ADOPTION
Device integration
Native InGaN® is designed for integration into established III-nitride manufacturing processes, providing a path from materials development to new devices.
The team
A focused core with deep expertise
Opnovix brings together leaders in III-nitride technology, semiconductor commercialization, finance and investment.

Dr. Mike Krames
Founder & CEO
Bringing more than 30 years of leadership in III-nitride semiconductor physics, device development, and commercialization. He previously led technology development at Hewlett-Packard, Philips Lumileds, and Soraa, pioneering advances in high-efficiency LEDs for lighting, automotive, and display applications. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of IEEE, Optica, and the Illuminating Engineering Society. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Tim Lester
Head of Finance
Provides financial leadership for Opnovix, bringing extensive executive leadership experience in finance, operations, and commercialization across the semiconductor and LED industries. He currently serves as CFO and COO of Ventiva, a thermal-management technology company, and previously served as CEO of LED lighting pioneer Bridgelux. His earlier senior leadership roles include eSilicon, Lumileds Lighting, and Philips Electronics.

Prof. Nicolas Grandjean
Scientific Advisor
Professor of Physics and Vice President at EPFL, where he founded the Laboratory for Advanced Semiconductors for Photonics and Electronics. An internationally recognized authority on III-nitride semiconductors and optoelectronics, he has published more than 600 scientific papers and received the Nakamura Lecturer Award and Quantum Devices Award. He previously served as Director of EPFL’s Institute of Condensed Matter Physics and Head of its School of Physics.
